El Tour de Tucson XXIII




It is El Tour de Tucson Time Again!!

Charter Funding returns in the third year of a three-year commitment as El Tour's title sponsor while Diamond Ventures adds a sixth year as the event's presenting sponsor.

Proceeds from this year's event will again benefit Tu Nidito Children and Family Services whose mission is to provide individual, family and group support to children and their families as they deal with serious illnesses and death. El Tour expects to raise over $200,000 for Tu Nidito this year.

Other fund-raising efforts include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the American Parkinson Disease Association. For the tenth year in a row, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be bringing hundreds of cyclists from all over the country, raising funds to support research for leukemia and related cancers.

In addition to the 109-mile Main Event, cyclists can ride in the Pulte Homes 80-Mile El Tour, the Intuit 66-Mile El Tour, the Town of Oro Valley 35-Mile El Tour and the TMC 4-mile and 1/4 mile El Tour Kids Fun Ride.

The El Tour season kicks off on Sunday, September 18th with the Diamond Ventures 8th annual El Tour 10K & 5K Run/Walk at Continental Reserve. Each day thereafter up until El Tour, Flag Riders will bicycle the entire El Tour route while carrying the flag of El Tour.

El Tour week begins with the Foot Fitting.com Bike, Fitness & Health Expo and the El Dorado Hospital Wellness Conference, both scheduled for Wednesday, November 16th thru Friday, November 18th at the TCC. On Friday, the Rusing & Lopez 10th annual El Tour Golf Classic will take place at the Arizona National Golf Club. On Saturday, the El Tour Downtown Fiesta in partnership with Tucson Downtown Alliance will begin with the 109-mile Main Event and TMC Kids Fun Ride, followed by art shows, live bands, kids activities, beer gardens, ICE CATS Ice Hockey, the Opera and the AOL Grand Cycling Awards Ceremony interspersed between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. The closing ceremony will feature a fireshow performance by internationally-renowned Flam Chen.


The Charter Funding 23rd El Tour de Tucson presented by Diamond Ventures will be held Saturday, November 19th, 2005. Last year's event drew 6,847 cyclists, 2,200 volunteers and 17,075 spectators.
